Introduction

  • PCDP focuses on the Parkari community, which numbers up to 1.2 million, scattered throughout lower Sindh. 99% are peasant farmers, either owning land in the Thar Desert area where drought is frequent, or living as landless farm labourers in the irrigated area where they are at the mercy of powerful landowners. The community’s social status is that of a scheduled caste within the caste system originating in India. Much of the Parkari community is still unaware of civil & political rights, and do not have enough knowledge to fight to protect their rights because of the high illiteracy rate. Presently, only 5% of Parkaris are aware of their basic rights and only 5% are literate.

  • PCDP is committed to building the capacity of its staff in leadership, advocacy, social mobilization and networking strategies, as well as improving their skills in English, Parkari and computer use. PCDP is not only organizing training events in its office by hiring competent resource persons, but also by sending its staff members for appropriate training at provincial, national or international level.

  • Quality Assurance and Resource Mobilization Department (QARMD)

    PCDP has also worked on Complaint Response Unit (CRU) recently wherein complaints from the targeted villages of PCDP receive under this unit, Monitoring & Evaluation Officer (MEO) responds accordingly. The purpose of this unit is to maintain transparency between PCDP and target community. The CRU has its own complaint handling mechanism through which it operates and responds to the complainant timely with peaceful manners. Moreover, suggestions/comments/appreciations/needs are also received.
